Baltimore Comic Con Report
Hello, all!
Russ and I returned from the Baltimore Comic Con late Sunday night and we took yesterday off to recover, but now we're back in action! And I'm here to post a few thoughts and lots of pictures.
But, first, I'll just cut the crap and tell you what you probably want to know!
No, I didn't win a Harvey. But that's ok. I won't pretend I'm not a little disappointed, but it really is the nomination that matters to me. The Best Colorist win went to Laura Martin, of Astonishing X-men, who is a very deserving recipient. You can find the list of winners here:

I've never done an LJ cut before. I hope this works...
We arrived around 8:30 or so in Baltimore on Friday night and got settled in at the Mount Vernon Hotel, 5 blocks or so from the Convention center. The Archaia crew was nice enough to make the arrangements for us.
Here's Russ voguing in our room that night. Too much driving will do this to a man.
The view of Baltimore from the hotel window.
Saturday, we had breakfast at the hotel and met up with Mark Smylie, Dave Lewis, Marv Mann and Dave Petersen in time to head over to the convention center together. This was my first time meeting Marv, the artist on Lone and Level Sands. It's always good to meet your collaborators face to face!
Here we are all set up on Saturday. I'm watching David Petersen of Mouse Guard sketch mice. He was drawing and signing constantly for his adoring fans! His badass little mice make me giggle.
Me, Dave Lewis and Marv Mann. The Lone and Level Sands crew!
More me.
More Dave and Marv at the booth.
Dave Petersen did this sketch for Dave Lewis's sketchbook. One of Petersen's mice on top of Moses's head. Genius! This picture's kind of blurry. If I get a clearer image, I'll post it.
The Saturday convention went pretty well! With the exception of the fire alarm and forced evacuation of the entire convention hall in the morning. (Which didn't really delay things as much as we feared it would. All was well.) Heidi of The Beat posted a video covering the evacuation here:

After, the convention, we all headed over to the Marriot for the Harvey Awards banquet and ceremony.
Here I am with my Harveys program in the lobby during the VIP cocktail reception. Marv is in the back reading through the nominees list.
Dave Lewis enjoying some cheese!
The LaLS team again. Thricely nominated and looking forward to hearing the results.
At dinner. A new tradition begins. A tradition, apparently, involving posing with a napkin over the mouth.
Dave Petersen and his lovely wife, Julia, who adopts and enforces this new tradition.
Dave Lewis and Mark Smylie.
Russell.
The best photo I could get during the dinner without flash. I hate flash, but most people won't put up with a four second exposure! Sigh!
After dinner, the ceremony began. Jerry Robinson, famous for his work on Batman and for the creation of The Joker, talked to us a bit. And he talked about how much he hated working on Lassie! It was wonderful to hear him speak. Learn more about him here:

Kyle Baker, our emcee. An animator and cartoonist known for his work on Plastic Man.

The Harvey Awards ceremony was fun, though, a little disappointing as you can imagine. The two indie books recognized, Lone and Level Sands and Elk's Run, had a total of 10 nominations and neither received any awards. So, it was a little discouraging for us little guys in some respects. But it won't stop us! Being nominated in the first place and being there for this event really is what counted. I am inspired to get back to work and make me some comics!
After the ceremony, just about everyone went to the Marriot bar to either celebrate or drown their sorrows!
Here's Dave being a jackass and posing with someone else's Harvey! Oh you!

Oh, and I also saw Lou Forrigno at the bar. I know what you're thinking and no, I didn't make him angry. I made sure to avoid making him angry. Because I know what happens if you do!
I don't have any pictures of Sunday, because I was an exhausted wreck for a good portion of the day! But Sunday was also a good day for meeting people, making sales and getting the word out there! After the con, Russ and I got some nice Italian and headed home to our kitty.
And I'm spent! Sorry if I spelled anyone's name wrong or left anything out!
So that's the official writeup! Thanks for reading!
I'm gonna get back to work now!
